‘Now I get it’, you say to yourself. As you appreciate the contour of the magnificent peaks of Montserrat rising in the distance, in a beautiful horizon, between vineyards and pine tree forests, you get to understand. You’ve been told all about its legends and myths during the morning, you’ve climbed its steep walls on the scenic train ride to the monastery. But it is now, from afar, contemplating how the mountain range reigns over the landscape in the distance, that you finally understand how this massif acquired its atmosphere of myth and legend. You turn around to face the rest of the group. With a glass of wine in your hand, you listen to your tour guide’s voice. It talks of generations, roots and ancient traditions. The sun feels warm in the courtyard by the castle’s façade, in the winery. Carried away, you close your eyes to embrace the tingling sensation of the wine in your tongue, mixed with the words and the overall ambience of quiet and peace.
This day trip is a late-start upgraded version of our Montserrat, Tapas & Wine tour, and it comes with some extras and an upgrade option! If our usual meeting time sound too early for you because you spent last night enjoying the vibrant Barcelona nightlife, this might very well be your tour.
You are going to meet us in the very center of Barcelona just before 10 am, to jump on board our air-conditioned bus and head to the very center of Catalonia – the Montserrat massif. You will be dropped off at the feet of the mountain, where your local English-speaking tour guide will lead you to ride very scenic cogwheel train that connects the lowlands with Montserrat Monastery hidden in between the peaks. This is part of the added value of this tour!
Enjoy a guided tour in Montserrat and visit all the highlights of the monastery by the hand of your local tour guide. You will then enjoy some free time to a palate some traditional foods made by Montserrat monks or farmers, as well as soaking in this special place where nature, culture and spirituality meet. Meet your tour guide again to get on board for the second part of the tour. Oller del Mas cellar awaits!
Oller del Mas cellar is located in a magnificent natural setting, facing Montserrat and surrounded by endless vineyards, pine forests and cereal fields. Oller del Mas will welcome you with an extra glass of wine along with a platter of local farmers’ cheeses – the same that are sold in Montserrat Monastery. That will be the starting of your wine tour along Oller del Mas premises that will culminate, of course, with a wine tasting of three ecological wines paired with Spanish traditional tapas. We cannot think of a better plan to escape the rush of Barcelona and enjoy some fresh air in the Spanish countryside!
After a day trip of indulging, head back to Barcelona to reach the city center in mid-afternoon, just on time for some shopping or exploring the city further.
If you want to upgrade this very same tour to a full lunch with wine, check out our Late-start Montserrat, Food & Wine tour. You will feast on a delicious multi-course meal at Oller del Mas restaurant before visiting the winery and enjoying an ecological wine tasting in the afternoon, which means you will reach Barcelona later in the evening.
